Howard and Sarah embark on their most ambitious buildingproject yet - a sleek, angled, metallic floating home on atidal estuary near Worthing. Designed to look like a boat, andnestled within an idiosyncratic houseboat community, thestructure will sit on an experimental prefabricated polystyreneslab to deal with high tides alternating with hours sitting inthe mud. It's a huge experiment, with £385,000 tospend over an 18-month schedule, especially as they'llbe doing much of the work themselves and finalising theengineering as they go. Things get off to an agonisingly slowstart when it takes months to painstakingly remove a condemnedD-Day landing craft from the plot before they can even getstarted and the constant tidal shifts that disrupt anyconstruction creates a real recipe for disaster
